Hitachi unveils first 2TB hard drive in the world

The new Deskstar 7K2000 is a world’s first - a 2TB, 7200 RPM hard drive. This hi tech device is a perfect blend of high performance and high capacity with low power consumption( think green!) and will be nice addition to high performance desktop systems.
2TB of storage space on a single hard drive is already impressive achievement by itself but Hitachi did not stop on pure numbers. Some of the technology incorporated in this drive will make sure that you get the best storage solution in every aspect:
- Special five-platter design complete with relaxed bit density and proven perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) technology.
- Extremely quiet operation, featuring a 32MB cache and a 3Gb/s SATA interface.

- Halogen-free, earning the coveted Hitachi EcoTrac classification.
Also, 7K2000 impressive features include industry-standard 512-byte sector formatting, a patented ramp load/unload design to increase shock protection, and Thermal Fly-height Control (TFC) to maintain a consistent fly-height during the read/write process for added data reliability.
Deskstar 7K2000 will be available worldwide sometime in the current quarter although there is no price tag on it yet.
