Digital cameras can last for many years without breaking down. Without movable parts( with exception of optical zoom) and considering high reliability of electronics components there is small chance that you will need new one any time soon… unless you drop it in the water or on hard surface. If you happen to do exactly that, by accident or intentionally( you need good excuse to buy new model with some fancy features and, of course, more megapixels) then consider this latest cool camera made by Pentax.
